Claudio Riva is the current Chairman of Riva Forni Elettrici, a group within which he has previously held several positions of responsibility, including CEO.
Until 2005, he worked in the steel industry and then moved into shipbuilding with Società Navali Unite Genova (SNUG), which was later sold to a renowned German shipowning company.
Before the shipowning interlude, Claudio Riva made significant contributions to the steel industry, playing a leading role in the privatization of the German steel industry following National Reunification. Riva Group achieved remarkable results, gaining public recognition for exceeding the employment and investment promises agreed to with its counterparts. The manager went on to chair the Supervisory Board of Group companies active in Germany.
In the early 2000s, Claudio Riva worked on the transition from full-cycle steelmaking to more sustainable models, as well as the development of the Genoa Cornigliano plant. The culmination of this process was the signing of the 2005 Program Agreement, signed by the government, local authorities, and social partners, which is often praised as an example of a private company transforming itself with a view to environmental redevelopment. The signing of the agreement represented a key step toward the decarbonization of the Italian steel industry , managing to safeguard jobs and investment commitments at the same time.
In 2014, Claudio Riva returned to assume leadership of the company, setting a strategy based on experimentation and technological innovation. Under his leadership, the research and development laboratory located at the Lesegno plant entered into several partnerships with universities and research centers, including the Polytechnic University of Turin and the University of Pisa.
As a result of his presidency, Riva Forni Elettrici reached an annual turnover of 5.2 billion euros in 2022, achieving a production of 5.7 million tons of steel per year. The Group still holds a significant market share in the so-called “long” products sector.
